Cupcake nursing pads

Cupcake nursing pads with inserts tucked inside

A little while ago while I was still pregnant I was lucky enough to be sent a pair of cupcake nursing pads for those little booby leakages, but it's only in the last 3 weeks I've been able to test them.

I've also been using the Tommee Tippee ones, so I have a little comparison to make.  The Tommee Tippee ones are good enough, although they suggest you change them over every 2-3 hours, so I'm guessing with each feed for a newborn, or each express.  I must admit, I haven't done that, but I haven't leaked that much unless it's early morning (typically the I leak all over the duvet cover!). What I don't like about them is I find them to be a bit sharp and angular, so they show up through my clothes as they change the shape of my bra area, and I don't find them to be very comfortable.

So how do they compare to the Cupcake nursing pads?  In fairness, you can't really compare them - the Cupcake nursing pads are very comfortable to wear because of their material, and they shape around your boobs really well as they're softer and made of fabric.  The inserts which pop out are really absorbent, much more than the disposable ones.  I love that these are made of natural organic material and are unlikely to irritate my skin when it's at it's most sensitive.  I've been really impressed with these and am considering buying more so I can do without the disposable ones all together.

The lowdown
  • They're made from organic material and natural fibres
  • They're washable, so a little greener than disposable ones
  • Ultra absorbent
  • Usable day or night
They are more expensive than disposable alternatives, but I do reach for these every time if I can, so in my opinion, they're worth it.  They cost £9.90 for 2 pairs, and you can buy the inserts for £5.90 for 2.  Given how often they suggest to change disposable nursing pads, this could well save you money in the long run, as a standard box of 50 disposable will cost around the £5 mark.

All that aside, when you have sore nipples from breastfeeding or expressing, can you really put a price on the comfort of having cotton against your nipples instead of synthetic pads?

  1. Oh, I must try these! I currently use a combination of Boots and Asda ones, and although comfy they do show through thin clothes. I started with disposable ones too. URGH! So horrible. x
