My last antenatal appointment

CTG

Yesterday was my last antenatal appointment, and oh boy was it a long one - the longest one yet. So, we left home at 10:30 ready for an 11am appointment.  Hubby dropped me off by reception so I could grab a Starbucks and we headed over to the clinic.  I've never seen it so full of kids - it seems every parent who already had kids had to bring them with them - the result? Me having a headache from so many loud screaming kids and a boiling hot waiting room - honestly, it was like a daycare centre...

Over an hour later and we're still sat there while the rest of the clinic are seen.  Then I get called to have my blood pressure taken, weighed and my wee dipped - which was positive for ketones once again, meaning I'm dehydrated.

About 20 mins later, I get called for a scan (which was a surprise).  They were just doing a doppler of the heart and checking AFI (fluid around the baby) - both of which was fine.  The nicest part was that it looked like Squidge was sucking his thumb, awwww :)

After another wait, about 15 mins (at a guess) a Dr called me in and it was time for my stretch & sweep.  By this time, I was pretty stressed about it - lots of people had taken great pleasure in telling me how painful these are (thanks for that) and I felt I was on the verge of tears.  Hubby stepped out of the room and the procedure got underway.  My cervix was still high and she could only just reach it, this doesn't bode well for induction :/

She then called up to the ward and booked me in to be induced on Friday (3rd October).  I need to call the ward in the morning to see when they want me to go in.  I think I have pretty realistic expectations, if it goes how I think it might (slowly) then we might have Squidge on Monday - but we'll see.

After that, they wanted me to have a trace (CTG) where they put a heart monitor on my belly and a contraction monitor.  I was on that for about half an hour, and his heartbeat was great - it's always lovely to hear it and hear he's ok :)

The sweep didn't seem to kick anything off - I haven't lost my plug yet and I've had no contractions, just regular tightenings (Braxton Hicks) which I've seen picked up when I was on trace.  The only thing is I'm more achy than I was :)

All in all I'm pretty nervous for Friday/the weekend - I just want it to be a memory and to have Squidge in my arms :)  Oh and just in case you're wondering, I won't be announcing his name on here, I want to keep that private, so he'll always be Squidge on here :)

38 week pregnancy update

38 week pregnancy update
Top to Bottom, left to right: A cute adorable little monkey babygrow we picked up at Sainsburys (£12), my bump at 37+5, a wicker stand I'm turning shabby chic by painting it white so it can go back into the new bathroom and not look out of place, and our 6th wedding anniversary.

MY WEEK
Overall it's been a pretty good week.  At my consultant appointment on Tuesday she said that my next appointment (tomorrow) is likely to be my last (more on that below).  This last week we've also had our bathroom done, it was amazing, the plumber & fitters managed to get it all done in 4 days!  It still needs to be painted which won't happen before the baby comes - that's not a big deal, but there are big bits of plaster exposed on the walls, so it does still feel like it's only 50% done, we've held off moving everything back in there until it's been painted otherwise we'd have to move it all out again :P

I've finally started to nest too!  On Friday I cleaned the bathroom, the nursery, the lounge & conservatory floor and dusted the TV unit - also sorted through some paperwork.  I felt like I could have kept going all day!  Then on Sunday I gave 2 coats of white paint to the wicker stand pictured above (the colour theme for the bathroom is dark wood (wenge) and white) so hopefully it'll blend in a bit better in there now.  I'm writing up a whole post about my renovation of it.

SYMPTOMS
The heartburn has eased, and now it's more general aches and pains, so a very achy lower back, my hips are hurting a lot, especially the right one.

SLEEP
My sleep is very up and down at the moment.  Saturday night was terrible, both the hubby and I were awake from about 5am, after a very restless night and didn't fall asleep again until about 7am.  The worst thing is waking up in the middle of the night needing a wee - I get a real ache in my hips and when I have to turn to get out of bed, it's really painful, especially when I limp off to the loo :P

DIET & WEIGHT
After a busy day yesterday, I missed weighing myself again - however at my last appointment on Tuesday I'd lost another pound or two, which is good!  My diet is the same, still fruit salad for breakfast, cheese sandwich and Quavers for lunch and a simple dinner.  I must admit, I am looking forward to eating relatively normally again.  The diabetic nurses said that once the baby is born I can stop monitoring my bloods.  Since this diet has really agreed with me, I do plan to keep some elements of it going, like the switch to brown pasta - both the hubby and I really like it.  I still want to have fruit salad for breakfast and healthy dinners.  What I am looking forward to, is eating mango again and drinking fruit juice, as well as having the odd treat.  Hopefully, after Squidge is born I'll continue to lose weight if I can keep up this diet.

NEXT APPOINTMENT
Tomorrow!  It's likely to be my last antenatal appointment, how frightening! I'll be having a sweep, and a CTG (going on the trace).  If the sweep doesn't kick-off labour, then they'll look to induce me on Thursday/Friday.  So, that might make this my last pregnancy update too - god it feels so real now!

BABY STUFF
The only new thing we've bought this week is the cute monkey babygrow which we picked up at Sainsburys on a whim - it's so incredibly soft!!!

So I think that's a wrap on my weekly pregnancy updates!  *IF* they decide not to induce me I'll do another update for next week, but it's more likely that I might still be in labour come next Monday :) So if I'm scarce on here for a little while, you'll know why :)  I'll be back with an update as soon as I can after the baby is born, introducing him to you :)  I'll probably keep calling him Squidge just to protect his identity somewhat, but I will be sharing pics of him with you :)

Antenatal appointment update

Squidge at 36 weeks

As you know, today was my 37 week antenatal appointment.  I was booked in for a growth scan, and on the basis of that they will decide if I should be induced this week or next week.

I rocked up bang on time at 11:30, and waited half an hour+ for my scan.  It was a different lady to usual and didn't do the typical 'here's the heartbeat, here's his face' at the beginning of the scan to reassure me, ah well.  His head was measuring at pretty much 41 weeks, legs at nearly 42 weeks, and his abdomen is still bang on target at 37 weeks.

Then I had to sit and wait to see the consultant.  Luckily I didn't have to wait too long, only another 15 mins or so.  She was really happy with his growth and emphasised how because I'm overweight the size of the head etc is only an estimation, it's never accurate even if you're slim.  So her plan of attack is at my clinic appointment next Tuesday I'll have a sweep, and a CTG (that's when they trace the baby's heartbeat), hopefully that'll kick off labour.  If not, on either Thursday or Friday (most likely, Thursday) I'll go in to be induced (CRAZY!).

It's all feeling so real.  Up until now I haven't given much thought to labour, one because I'm trying not to stress myself out, and two because it's something I have no control over, so there's no point me dwelling on it, but now it's around the corner, I can't help but wonder how it'll be.

I also met with an anaesthetist today who talked to me about having an epidural.  It's not something I want to plant to have, but I am open minded to having it, should things progress that way.  He said that with being induced, the contractions are more painful as they're brought on artificially - so he said that it's a good idea to consider it, before the contractions get really painful and it becomes too difficult for them to do it.  So on the back of that I'll bear that in mind for when I'm in labour.

There is of course a chance that Squidge will make an appearance before then of his own accord (which is what I'm hoping for), but we'll have to see :)

37 week pregnancy update - FULL TERM!

37 week pregnancy update
Top - Bottom, L-R: A strange rash that has appeared on my arm over the last few days, I think it's a late pregnancy thing.  The baby's hospital bag all packed and ready to go.  Delicate linen bags for the baby's socks and clothes - 2nd time we used it and it's ripped and torn - complained to Lakeland where I bought it from and they're sending a replacement.  I went to a Benefit Cosmetics press and blogger event in the week and they sent me a lovely book on brows (amongst other things).

bump progress
Bump progress over the last 3.5 weeks - how crazy is that!?!?!?!

MY WEEK
I have to say, it's been a really good week, and it's all happening!  My first full week of being off, and it's been great.  Last Monday was my highlight - knowing I was off for another 9 months, it was beautiful and sunny, I had the patio doors open, good films on and just had a blissful day - best Monday ever :)

I had the antenatal clinic on Tuesday - they said they may even induce me this week!!!!  I have a growth scan tomorrow and that's when they'll decide, depending on how big he is - so when we go to the appointment, I'll have my bags packed and in the boot of the car just in case!  We finally finished the nursery too - the only task left is for me to create a couple of paintings for the wall and put them up, but everything else is done and ready to go :)  Don't worry - there'll be a blog post all about the nursery on Wednesday with lots of photos.

SYMPTOMS
Plenty more heartburn.  Also when I get up after sitting for a while or getting out of bed, I'm in a bit of pain, mostly around my right hip, it hurts to lift my legs for the first couple of minutes.  I've also been feeling really tired, more tired than usual.

SLEEP
Much the same, I've been really achy and waking up a lot in the night due to the aches.  I also totally feel like a turtle on its back trying to get out of bed in the morning (or in the night), it's painful and uncomfortable.  I'm looking forward to feeling more normal again once he's born.

DIET & WEIGHT
My diet is the same - still a diabetic one.  When I saw the diabetic nurse and dietitian last week they did say that when the baby is born, I can stop monitoring my blood sugars - then 6 weeks after he's born I'll have a repeat GTT (Glucose tolerance test) to check that my body is back to being a non-diabetic.  I managed to forget to weigh myself this weekend too - so no idea whether I'm up or down.

NEXT APPOINTMENT
Tomorrow!  I have a growth scan, full antenatal appointment and seeing the next week (eek).

BABY STUFF
We haven't bought anything else other than on Saturday making a little trip to Aldi, checking out their baby event and walking away with a load of nappies and a box of 4 packs of sensitive baby wipes.

36 week pregnancy update

36 week pregnancy update
Top to Bottom, L-R: Lovely flowers bought for me by my team on my last day at work, Shelves finally up in the nursery with teddy bears and books on, Part of how my desk was decorated on my last day, My typical breakfast (yummy!), a load of baby laundry hanging up to dry (awww) and a derp face on my latest YouTube pregnancy update :)

MY WEEK
It's been a bit of a rollercoaster of a week (in a good way).  Tuesday was my last day at work before starting annual leave and maternity leave.  I thought I was going to be really sad, but because it's only a temporary break I was actually ok.  Monday (the day before) Squidge was pretty quiet, he seems to have a quiet day once a week, and when I was at my antenatal appointment on Tuesday morning they said that especially at this stage of pregnancy, if he's having a quiet day they need to know about it. Alas, Wednesday he was also quiet, so Thursday (I know, I really shouldn't have waited so long) I called the hospital and they wanted me to come in.

They put me on the trace monitor and Squidge's heart rate was ok, but on the higher edge of normal (it was flitting from 140-177 bpm) so instead of being on trace for 20 mins, I was on it for an hour and a half.  Because of that, and it being my 4th episode in, they wanted me to pop back in on Sat morning to go on trace again - all was well, his heart rate was similar but he was pretty active so they didn't mind.  My blood pressure was low for the first time EVER! lol, it was 100/60 - the lowest I've ever known it (it's usually slightly high) - but seeing as I felt fine they weren't worried at all - and lets face it, it's much better for it to be low when pregnant than high!

We've also made great progress in the house this week.  Saturday saw the shelves go up in the baby's room and on Sunday we sorted out all the bags of stuff we had in the conservatory (this will make room for the bath that's turning up ready for the bathroom to be done, and the pram to move from the nursery) - so it's starting to come together now.  There's just another 2 boxes of stuff to go through, and then we'll be close to getting the nursery finished.

We've also had some generous friends, and altogether had £85 of Mothercare vouchers.  So armed with these we bought the cot mattress on Saturday, and the car seat base - so thanks to their generosity we only had to part with £35 of our own money, which was amazing :)

SYMPTOMS
Lots of lower back ache, it just doesn't seem to subside at the moment and a lot of pelvic pressure since Squidge is well engaged!  Still been having my daily dose of heartburn with a side order of nausea, but that's nothing new.

SLEEP
This has improved a little, I'm still having to get up for bathroom visits in the night but I am sleeping a bit better, but in spite of that I'm still really tired and feel the need for daily naps now, only thing is, I begrudge napping in the day, it feels like such a waste.  I don't think our mattress is helping my achy lower back either, I just can't get into a position which eases the ache at all.

DIET & WEIGHT
I'm weighing exactly the same as the last 2 weeks, which is about 10lb lighter than before I got pregnant, I'm really happy with this as the baby will be gaining weight so I'm essentially losing weight right now, whoop :)

NEXT APPOINTMENT
Tomorrow - I have 2 clinic appointments, the normal antenatal one late morning and I'm seeing an anesthetist in the afternoon to talk about my options when being induced and allergies etc.  Hopefully after tomorrow I'll have a date for inducing me too, scary!

BABY STUFF
For stuff we've bought - just the cot mattress, car seat base, and 3 picture frames for the artwork I'm creating for the nursery.  However we've had quite a few presents!  Maybe I'll try and put these in a separate post :)

35 week pregnancy update

35 week pregnancy update
Top - Bottom, Left - Right: Progress in the nursery - we finally have the furniture put together, the hubby after completing the Cardiff 10k on Sunday (in 3 weeks he'll be doing the mens health challenge), The Sims 4 - I've been spending a lot of my time on that, baby clothes in the drawers, awww

MY WEEK
Well, this week hasn't been quite as crazy, so this blog post won't be quite as long :P  We've made some great progress in the nursery - we bought the drawers (Hemnes 3 drawer) and put the Mothercare oak changing table together (not very good quality).  We popped over to the in-laws to pick up lots of the baby stuff (mostly toys and clothes) to start filling the drawers.  We still need to buy more nappies - we'll be getting the Aldi ones, but in the meantime we've ordered some of the Waitrose Essential ones - our friends who have a newborn have said they're pretty much as good as the Aldi ones and they're practically the same price (only a few pence difference).

This week also see's me finishing work (tomorrow) and starting my annual leave and maternity leave, I can't wait!  I'm hoping to blog a lot more as I'll have the time to dedicate to it, and ideally, I'd like to get lots of posts written up in advance ready for when the baby comes.

SYMPTOMS
It's been the week of the bad back - my lower back has been killing.  Normally when I'm in bed and I get an achy side, just lying on my back for a couple of minutes eases the pain, but that's not helping any more.  I've also reached the point where I can't stand for more than about 15 mins without feeling sick and getting lots of pain in my back and bump.  My heartburn seems to have returned too.

Oh, and I've been having some cravings - spicy curry :D  For curry I always have pilau rice, with plain korma sauce (no meat or veg), and occasionally a bombay aloo - well the new curry place we've tried does a very spicy bombay aloo and that's what I really wanted.  It's that, and Fanta Zero - can't get enough of either at the moment!

SLEEP
As mentioned above, my sleeping has been interrupted by a very achy back and pretty horrid heartburn.  At this stage, I don't know whether it's the bad, old & tired mattress or just this stage of pregnancy.  Part of me thinks it's my body preparing me for the sleepless nights I have ahead.  I'm just grateful that at least then, my body won't be using all it's energy on growing a baby.

DIET & WEIGHT
My weight has remained the same, despite a growing baby and lots of curry, I must be doing something right!  My meals are still very much the same, fruit salad and greek yoghurt for breakfast, cheese sandwich on wholemeal for lunch and then either new potatoes, quorn and veg for dinner, or a pasta bake (or curry!).  It's not great variety, but it's been tasty :)

NEXT APPOINTMENT
Tomorrow - I'm seeing the diabetic nurse at the antenatal clinic, they're going to review my food diary and the bloods I had taken 2 weeks ago.  If I'm lucky I'll have another scan and get to see Squidge again.  I think I need to go back next week too and that's when they'll talk about inducing me at 38 weeks, scary!

BABY STUFF
I've not bought anything new this week, but what we have yet to buy and will hopefully this week, is the cot mattress, maybe Ewan the Sheep, and the car seat base *fingers crossed it fits without me having to move my seat all the way forwards*.

34 week pregnancy update

34 weeks pregnant
Top-Bottom, L-R - Proof that Squidge is indeed a boy, our pram arrived (Graco Evo travel system), Matilda trying to eat some of my baby shower balloon, Mani from the weekend (OPI Suzi and the 7 Dussledorfs with the Max Factor fantasy fire top coat), the nursery progress - walls painted soft sage green and the laminate floor in, the Mamas & Papas equivalent of the Bumboo - thinking of getting this

MY WEEK
Well, you'd better grab a cuppa, it's been a big week!  Ready? Right, I had an appointment to see the diabetic nurse at the antenatal clinic on Tuesday (only seeing her) due to my blood sugar readings not being quite perfect.  Got there, waited about 2 hrs and then I was called in for a scan (wasn't expecting this), Squidge had turned to head down (whoop), his legs and head are still measuring a couple weeks ahead, but this time so is his abdomen (not great).  Fluid levels had dropped a smidge too, but not enough to concern them (yay).

Then I was called in to see a Dr, she talked to me about my thyroid issues, had a feel of my tummy and listened to the baby's heartbeat (aww).  She dropped a bombshell on me - that they're going to induce me at 38 weeks - this is for 2 reasons.  1) Because I'm diabetic, and 2) because his abdomen is starting to grow ahead of where it should be (thanks to the gestational diabetes).

Then I saw a consultant about my diabetes, he still wasn't quite ready to put me on tablets and wanted a blood test done and to see me back in 2 weeks.  After all that, I was there for 4.5 hrs!!!

Knowing that I'm likely to have Squidge early, I've brought my maternity leave and annual leave forwards by 2 weeks, which means I only have a few days left in work (Mon - Weds this week, and just Mon and Tues next week).

So you might say it's been an eventful week!

SYMPTOMS
HUNGER! The pregnancy hunger has finally found me! But I haven't really eaten any more than I normally would (whoop), I'm just hungrier - if I eat more, it'll mess with my blood sugars more, so I have to be really careful (boo).  I had a massive craving at the weekend for meat, big greasy burgers, bacon and sausages (not good considering I'm vegetarian!) - so instead, for dinner I had a plate of Quorn (protein) and a little salad - it seems to have got rid of my craving, I suspected it was more of a protein craving than anything else and I think I was right.

Pregnancy insomnia has found me too - more on this below.  Had the same amount of heartburn as usual.  We've also discovered that Squidge's routine is to have 1 quiet day every 7-10 days, well Saturday was the quiet day, and even though I know it's his routine it's still worrying.  But don't worry, Sunday he didn't stop wriggling all day! :)

SLEEP
So yeah, pregnancy insomnia.  Basically, I get really tired throughout the day, and in the evening I get really restless and when that happens, the only thing I can do is go to bed.  If I don't immediately fall asleep (not likely) then I get really restless again and a little itchy, then it takes me hours to get to sleep - and it's very interrupted sleep (needing to get up to wee or just waking up lots).

DIET & WEIGHT
Weight is the same as last week, so about 3 quarters of a stone lighter than when I got pregnant.  Diet is good, here's a typical food diary:
Breakfast: Fruit salad and greek yoghurt with a flat teaspoon of truvia.
Lunch: Cheese wholemeal sandwich, packet of Quavers and a can of diet pop.
Dinner: Quorn salad, or wholemeal pasta, or new potatoes with veg and quorn.
All in all pretty healthy - I'm just craving variety, and because I've been watching GBBO I've been wanting to bake again, but I daren't otherwise I'd be too tempted to eat my creations!

NEXT APPOINTMENT
Thursday 4th November - just a midwife appointment - but they gave me strict instructions that if I'm not seen at the hospital at weeks 32, 34, 36, 38, 40 & 41 then I must make a midwife appointment on those weeks.  Hence this appointment.

BABY STUFF
Well, the nursery is coming along in leaps and bounds (hubby is fitting the beading to the floor as I type this) - during the week the furniture will be assembled and arranged, and all the baby stuff brought back from the in-laws and put away (can't wait for that bit).  Don't worry - I'll do a big post with lots of pics on what the nursery looks like :)

The pram turned up too, so that's all assembled and ready to go.  We also picked up a couple of bits at the Asda baby and toddler event - bought some Johnsons sleepy bath wash and baby oil (I plan to bathe Squidge in the evening - subject to change!), a big tub of Sudocrem (this was super cheap at just £4) and some Infacol.

I also placed a good Mothercare order, I think I'll do a separate post on this for you on Weds :)

Still to do/buy:
Pack my hospital bag (I'm gathering stuff for it at the moment)
Go to Mothercare and see if the car seat base for our car seat will fit in the car - if yes, buy it
Buy a chest of drawers from IKEA for Squidge (Hemnes - 3 drawer unit)
I'm sure there's loads more and my mind has gone blank :P

I bet you're glad you got that cup of tea now!

33 Week pregnancy update

33 week pregnancy update
Top to bottom, L-R: My lip product stash I found while clearing out some old bags, my mani from Saturday (Nails Inc Motcomb St with Max Factor fantasy fire over the top), some lovely goodies for the blog that the postman crushed when pushing through the door, some reduced goods from our Aldi shop

MY WEEK
It's been a pretty good week.  I had an antenatal appointment on Tuesday, or at least so I thought I did. I was told I'd be having growth scans every other week, but when I turned up they only wanted me to see the diabetic nurse, so ended up being a quick appointment.  They weren't overly happy with my blood sugar results and I need to go back tomorrow as they're probably going to put me on Metformin to help control my levels, as they seem to be going high when they shouldn't.

It's also been a really emotional week, it was the anniversary of my mum passing away, and it was more difficult this year as I also lost my brother earlier in the year.  Then during a regular meeting at work, I discovered the girl I was having the meeting with knew my brother too - all very emotional.

On a more positive note, we've been busy starting to get the nursery sorted, clearing out furniture from the room - it's still full of stuff but we're getting through it.  I'm feeling a real sense of urgency to get it done now.  Over the next week I need to start collecting bits for my hospital bag and start getting that ready too.  So much to do/think of!

SYMPTOMS
Very tired all the time and I get very tired from doing very little.  The baby has been having a right wriggle this week too, which is lovely :)  I've had a pretty achy lower back too and I've been needing lots of visits to the bathroom - I think Squidge is dancing on my bladder :)

SLEEP
Still not sleeping very well, I managed to have 1 good night sleep on Friday night  - I slept from 10:30 through to 4am, had to get up for a bathroom visit, then slept until about 7am.  But yeah, now when I feel like I should be getting as much sleep as possible, I'm finding it really hard to get much sleep.

DIET & WEIGHT
I've lost another 1lb, I'm now 8-9lbs lighter than before I got pregnant, crazy eh!  My diet feels really limited at the moment (vegetarian & diabetic) and I feel like I'm eating the same stuff every day, which I am.  I'm just counting down those days until I can eat normal food again, like a poached egg with a runny yolk, mmmmm.

NEXT APPOINTMENT
Tomorrow, just seeing the diabetes nurse and will most likely be put on Metformin.

BABY STUFF
The only new things we bought were the three things in the picture from Aldi - all came in under £5.

This past week I've written about the little (food) bits I'm looking forward to having once the baby is born, our experiment in shopping at Aldi & Lidl and my wonderful baby shower.

32 week pregnancy update

32 week pregnancy update
1.  Our moses basket arrived - it's the Olive and Henri one from Toys R Us, kindly bought by Squidge's grandparents
2.  Look out for Wednesday's baby shower post :)
3.  My favourite diabetic friendly breakfast
4.  Car trouble - well, not really, but the battery did go and we had to buy a new one, bye bye the best part of £100!

MY WEEK
Well, it's been a pretty wonderful week.  On Wednesday it was my baby shower, I'll be writing up a whole blog post about that which will go live this Wednesday.  We had another couple of hours spent at the maternity assessment unit because Squidge was being quiet, he was still moving around, just less than normal.  That was followed up with a scan the next day to check my amniotic fluid levels, they'd dropped a tiny bit from the last scan, but it was still a good level, considering the baby is growing.  The big bonus to that scan is we had the nicest scan pic we've seen - you can really see Squidge's profile :)

I've also done my last 5 day week at work (whoop!), only 6 weeks to go until I'm on maternity leave and I can't wait.  I'm finding working getting harder and harder now, I get very tired very quickly so the sooner I can finish work the better.

SYMPTOMS
I've had a pretty achy lower back this week on and off, and every night when I go to bed the heartburn returns, at least when I sleep on my right side.  One evening I also had period-like cramps for about half an hour, they were pretty uncomfortable - I've read up that it's likely to be the baby moving down in the uterus - I hope not though as he's breech still!

SLEEP
It's getting worse - the last few nights I've been having a terrible nights sleep, very interrupted, tossing and turning a lot and just lying in bed awake for what feels like hours, as well as being really achy.

DIET & WEIGHT
I didn't weigh myself this weekend, so we'll have to see next weekend how my weight is :)  My diet is good, although I have discovered this week that bran flakes and weetabix really don't mix with my diabetes, so I'll be avoiding them from now on.  I'm loving having strawberries, blueberries and kiwi's for breakfast with greek yoghurt and a touch of truvia sweetener.

NEXT APPOINTMENT
Tomorrow! I have a big antenatal appointment tomorrow where I'll have a growth scan, see my consultant, the medics and maybe the diabetes nurse - it's safe to say I'll be there for a good 4 hours, I'm going to try and remember to bring a book with me this time (the 2nd Harry Potter book - yes, I'm reading them for the first time at the age of 35 :P)

BABY STUFF
Well, as you can imagine, with a baby shower there's been quite an influx of baby stuff this week :P It's all at the in-laws so I'm not able to photograph it, but I do have some nice pics of the evening which I'll be putting into Wednesday's post.

31 week pregnancy update

31 week pregnancy update
Left: My first proper bump pic taken at 30 weeks & 2 days :)
Top Right: Matilda looking for the cable tie she was playing with
Bottom right: A knitting magazine I bought for my mother-in-law that has a pattern and materials with it to knit a red squirrel :)

MY WEEK
It's been a really good week :)  I had an antenatal appointment on Tuesday that went really well.  The baby is growing well, his head and legs are still measuring 2 weeks ahead (long legs like his Daddy) and his abdomen is spot on (which is the most important).  They also measured my amniotic fluid and it's gone up again, whoop!  It's now 13.something up from 8 then 10, so in normal ranges now, which is great.  I also saw the diabetic nurses who are really happy with how I'm controlling it with my diet which is great - a really great appointment :)  And as an added bonus, we were done there about 2 hours quicker than normal, which was fab.

SYMPTOMS
The heartburn has been getting me this week, and I've been pretty uncomfortable.  I think Squidge has been in some funny positions.  I've been getting pretty tired too, when it gets to about 10:30 at night, I all of a sudden get completely sleepy and need bed asap, and it's really hard getting out of bed in the morning as I'm so tired.  I think here is where things start getting harder...

SLEEP
I'm definitely more tired and get tired a lot more easily, it's hard work growing a baby :)  I'm waking up a lot in the night with really achy sides too, I'm not sure if that's just the pregnancy or the dying 10-year old mattress.

DIET & WEIGHT
At my appointment on Tues I'd noticed they'd recorded another weight loss - and weighing myself yesterday, I've now lost half a stone on my pre-pregnancy weight.  So not only have I negated the gains I should see from carrying a baby, but I'm getting lighter all the time.  I think the diabetic diet has a lot to do with that, and the fact I've had a reduced appetite since getting pregnant.  It'll be interesting to see after the baby is born how much weight I'll have actually lost :)

BUMP
Growing all the time, getting bigger and bigger as the weeks roll on - just have a look at the pic :)

NEXT APPOINTMENT
Tuesday 12th August - seeing the midwife for my 31 week appointment.

BABY STUFF
Not bought anything new this week, we moved all the baby stuff to hubby's parents house so we have room to start sorting the spare room.  What I'm looking forward to most this week though is my surprise baby shower :)  It's on Wednesday, all I know is that I'm being picked up at 6:30 and I don't know anything about what will happen, all very exciting :)

30 week pregnancy update

30 weeks pregnant
1. The first changing mat we've bought for Squidge
2. Poppet (Step-Dad's cat) on hubby's lap - she literally stayed there for hours
3. An epic salad the hubby made me, he's a keeper :)
4. Matilda looking cute on the stairs

MY WEEK
It's not been a bad week, although I've been quite stressed out at work, there's just a lot on at the moment.  Tuesday I had an appointment with the diabetic nurse at the antenatal clinic, there was me thinking it would be a quick check and back out but nope, I had a surprise scan and I met with the consultant too.  The good news was that the fluid that was low around Squidge has increased, it's still not high enough, but it's gone from about 8.3 to 10.4 (should be between 15-25) which is great, at least it's in the right direction :)

My blood sugars have been pretty stable this week, the only times they went high were after eating something that had too much carbs.  I'm going to try and walk more this week if I can, maybe around the lake on the way home a couple times a week, it should help my body control my blood sugars better.

I also had my whooping cough jab this week (Weds) and my arm still hurts!  It's funny, I really hate having blood taken since they always have to take it from the back of my hand (I had the worst veins) but I'd rather have that done than have a jab :/

SYMPTOMS
Big heartburn this week after eating marmite, sad face.  Also, after sleeping on an orthopedic bed at the weekend, I've been very achy and not sleeping very well.  I've been pretty tired (nothing new there) and get tired very easily at doing very little, that's pretty typical though :)

SLEEP
Since this seems to be a big part of most pregnancies I thought I'd start including this in my weekly updates.  As I mentioned above, at the weekend I was away at my step dad's house and he's got orthopedic mattresses, which give me absolute hell - I wake up more than normal and in quite a bit of pain, and by the morning I have quite a bit of pain in my bump.  However, back home it's a different matter, we have a 10 year old pocket-sprung very soft mattress, which is awesome to sleep in but we have 2 people shaped dips in the bed which isn't great for back support, so lets just say that even in my own bed I've been getting really achy.

DIET & WEIGHT
As I was away I wasn't able to weigh myself, but I did weigh myself one evening and overall since getting pregnant I'm up 3lbs and that's all - I'm pretty happy with that to say the least considering I'm now nearly 7.5 months pregnant :)

BUMP
As always, getting bigger all the time!  I still fit into my 3 maxi dresses so I'm pretty happy :)

NEXT APPOINTMENT
Tuesday morning - I'm now having weekly scans, one week to check the baby's growth, the next week to check the fluid levels.

BABY STUFF
So I've bought a few things this week, a changing mat, a bunch of clothes from Debenhams (I had a voucher left over from my birthday) and some swaddling wrap thingys for when Squidge is newborn :) I might put all of these into a haul post for you - the clothes at least, they're very cute :)

29 week pregnancy update

29 week pregnancy update
Top-Bottom, L-R: Homemade diabetic friendly lollies (diet lemonade), our new bedroom furniture (still waiting on the doors), Matilda helping us unpack the wardrobe, my growing bump :)

MY WEEK
This week saw us end our long weekend away in Cornwall (will be blogging about our babymoon this week), saw us find out that we're having a boy (all mentioned in my previous update, which was late) and has seen me try to get used to doing my blood sugars every day.

It's been quite busy, on Saturday hubby finished painting the bedroom, and Sunday we made an early trip to IKEA with to buy a new wardrobe, chest of drawers and bedside cabinets - then our in-laws came over to help us assemble it all, and holy moly are we glad they did!

I've been managing to do my bloods every day successfully, I'm not sure I have the knack yet as it still hurts when I do it.  My problem is that I've got really poor circulation, so I have to ensure the needle pricks my skin quite deeply, otherwise I just don't get enough blood up to do the test.  But because of that, I'm ending up with little bruises all over my finger tips.

SYMPTOMS
I've been quite tired this week, I think that's because I've been quite busy, and trying to deal with the heat.  If we lived in a normal house, it wouldn't have been too bad, but our lounge turns into our conservatory (with no doors in between) - what this means, over the last few days our house has been 28 degrees with no breeze... it's far to say, I haven't been sleeping very well.

DIET & WEIGHT
Once again I wasn't able to weigh myself this week, and I really don't know how I'm doing.  I've had quite swollen feet, so I can imagine that I could have gained, but my diet has been really good, thanks to the diabetes (or baby-betes as I call it).

BUMP
It's getting bigger by the day (as you can see in the pic above).  Squidge is moving more and kicking less, it's so lovely to feel him moving around :)

NEXT APPOINTMENT
Tuesday (tomorrow) I'm going back to the clinic to see the diabetic nurse to see how I've been getting on, and then Wednesday I'm having my whooping cough jab.  All fun stuff!

BABY STUFF
Well, now we know we're having a boy, we can start to buy some cute little outfits.  When we were in Sainsburys the other day waiting for my prescription we wandered over to the baby isle and bought a couple of outfits for Squidge, I'm still keen on buying a cute little pair of Converse booties too :)

28 week pregnancy update

28 week pregnancy update
L-R, Top-Bottom: A Cornish cream tea (I went very easy on the cream and jam), Carbis Bay beach, a diet coke with the name 'Pawel' weirdest spelling of the name I've seen!, hubby and I at the beach, one of my vegetarian meals, a stunning view we found by accident, and the museum of witchcraft in Boscastle

MY WEEK
Sorry this update is a couple of days late, we were away on our babymoon (I'll talk about that in a separate post).  It's been a crazy week starting at last Monday, the day I hit 27 weeks pregnant.  I ended up going to hospital as I was having reduced movements and had been for a few days.  As well as checking my wee and BP, they put a heart monitor across my belly to listen to Squidge's heartbeat, it was great and very strong (140-160 bpm), and with that I was discharged.

Then yesterday (Tuesday) I had my 28 week appointment.  It started off with a scan and we had the loveliest sonographer, he took the time to show us our baby, describe how Squidge was lying (head down, bum up).  Then told us that we're having a boy!!!!!!  Yep, definitely balls/scrotum that we saw!

Squidge was measuring ok - head is 2 measuring at 30 weeks, legs at 29 weeks and very long) and belly is about 2 days behind.  They also noted in the scan that my amniotic fluid seems to be a little less, not sure what it was before, but it's now 8.something, so they're going to keep an eye on that too.

I also met with the diabetic nurse who kitted me out with the stuff I need to check my blood sugar levels, I'll be measuring them 4 times a day - before 3 meals and after 1.  I so hope I don't need to do this after the baby is born, I hope my body can cope and go back to normal.

SYMPTOMS
Bit of bump ache, plenty of heartburn and getting tired very easily, as I discovered on our babymoon!

DIET & WEIGHT
Since I was away I haven't been able to weigh in this week, I should be able to next week though. I'm still getting used to this different diet.  I've swapped out white bread for wholemeal and the same with pasta.  It's difficult finding something to buy each day for lunch that fits both my vegetarian diet and the diabetic diet - so I'm going to start making my own lunch to take in, it'll be so much easier (and cheaper).  Cheese sandwiches FTW!

BUMP
Definitely growing and definitely feeling pregnant all the time, finally!  The bump is also starting to get in the way a bit - like having the laptop on my lap is getting more difficult :P

NEXT APPOINTMENT
Next Tuesday I'm seeing the diabetic nurse to see how my blood sugars are doing, fingers crossed for good news, I don't fancy having to inject myself :(

BABY STUFF
Funnily enough when we were on our babymoon we popped into a charity shop and bought a little dress for Squidge, I said to the hubby 'but what if we have a boy' and he said 'then we've just donated £2.50 to charity' :)  I thought that was a lovely way to look at it, I'll be donating the dress back to charity and they can make a little more out of it :)

27 week pregnancy update

27 week pregnancy update
L-R, Top to Bottom: Found my Sooty puppet (32 years old!), Matilda chilling while we were painting, the bruise left on my hand after having my 2nd GTT on Tuesday, the purple wall in our bedroom - painting 2 of them purple this weekend, chilling on the sofa bump pic and then having a fan on me as I was overheating :)

MY WEEK
Well, it's been an eventful week!  So I had my 2nd GTT (glucose tolerance test) on Tuesday, then about 4:30 the next day I get a call from the ante natal unit saying 'hey, your bloods are back and they're high' - OK??? She followed up by saying 'just try to eat healthily, cut out sugar and come to your next consultant appointment in 2 weeks' and that was about it, she was desperate to get off the phone, and giving me as little info as possible.

So, I have gestational diabetes but haven't really been given any guidance on what I can and can't eat. From what I've read, I need to avoid white pasta, rice and bread - switching to wholemeal. Cut out any and all sweet stuff including sweet fruits and all fruit juice.  My next appointment is on the 22nd, so hopefully I'll have more of an idea what I should eat and what to avoid then - but I really am disappointed with the way I was told, it was a fleeting phone call and she gave me almost no guidance.

We've also been sorting out and decorating our bedroom, we need to sort it all out, to move some of our stuff from the spare room into it to help get the nursery sorted.

SYMPTOMS
Been quite achy, having to get up and walk around frequently at work.  A little heartburn and backache, but that's about it :)

The biggest thing this week is I've been having much less movement from the baby.  I'd normally feel about 20-30 kicks a day, but over the last few days I'm lucky if I feel 5.  So I'm just hoping little Squidge is ok in there and I'm eating right for her.

DIET & WEIGHT
Weight is up 3lbs but I expected that as I've had swollen feet all week - my weight tends to go up on weeks when my swollen.  Diet has been all over the place, first half of the week was normal, 2nd half of the week was trying to be diabetes friendly.

BUMP
Well, it's growing! Have a look at the bump pic above :)  It's so amazing to know there's a little baby in there, and I'm loving getting the house ready for her arrival :)  It's a good job we have so many months to prepare!

NEXT APPOINTMENT
22nd July - seeing the consultant, endocrinologist (thyroid stuff) and someone about diabetes.  I'll probably be having a scan too, hopefully they'll be able to confirm Squidge's gender :)

BABY STUFF
Only bought a couple of little bits this week, which I'll blog about separately, but lets just say, I've discovered the wonderful world of JellyCat and gone a little bananas :D

26 week pregnancy update

26 week pregnancy update
Top to bottom, left to right: The totoro babygrow arrived, packing hubby's PC Gamers into storage boxes, his oldest PC Gamer (from Oct 1994, issue 11), Matilda peeking at us from the laundry basket when we were watching the F1, my sitting down with my fav mug watching the Fi, having my toe nails painted by the hubby while the F1 was red flagged, and Matilda discovering the laundry basket, very cute

MY WEEK
Oh my, what a week it's been!  On Tuesday I woke up (with no warning) with Labrynthitis, and let me tell you, it's not exactly fun!  I blogged about it over on the beauty blog in a 'where I've been' post on Friday if you want to take a look.  But that wiped me out for the week, I had the week off work (sick) which I hated, but on the bright side Squidge was VERY active!  Hubby also saw Squidge kick for the first time, and saw it a few times, a very special moment :)  He took a couple days off work to look after me, what a hero :)

SYMPTOMS
Other than the crazy unbalanced, dizzyness/spinning room I've been having - I wasn't too bad.  Some nausea (actually threw up a bit of my dinner when I was brushing my teeth!), backache, still a very painful heel on my left foot, and general tiredness.  Oh, and some heartburn.

DIET & WEIGHT
Well, weighed myself today and I'm still the same as I was last week, which is my pre-pregnancy weight.  I think me being ill has kept any gain off, although I haven't been in the slightest bit active as I was confined to my house pretty much all week. So, swings and roundabouts.

BUMP
Definitely growing, last night when I went to bed it was the biggest I'd seen it (when lying down), but, I'm not sure if this happens to anyone else, but just after lying on my back, the bump goes down within a couple of mins?  Nothing I'm worried about or anything, just wondered if that happened to anyone else?

NEXT APPOINTMENT
Tomorrow, I'm having my repeat GTT (Glucose tolerance test) at the hospital - that's half a day I can wave goodbye to, and say hello to some nice bruising on the back of my hand thanks to terrible veins.

BABY STUFF
There'll be a post about this on Weds, so keep your eyes peeled :)

That seems like quite a short update this week!  It's been pretty quiet though to be fair, with me being off.  I'm happy to report that I'm feeling better now though, still a little dizzy when I'm standing up or turning, but definitely 90% better.

25 week pregnancy update

My 25 week pregnancy update
Pic of me: Yep, boobs have gotten massive and bump is getting bigger!  Bunny booties - my lovely mother in law made these after I posted a pic of some cute ones I found on Etsy, these are unbelievably cute!!! My foot - started getting a faint (and sometimes non-faint) red stripe across both my feet, no idea why.  Rain - this is when we were off to a BBQ on Saturday, we had a massive thunderstorm not long before we needed to leave.

MY WEEK
I've had a pretty good week this week.  Felt the baby kicking lots which is always lovely, and seen my belly moving quite a bit.  I even took a little video which I posted on Instagram of the baby kicking - you have to look on the very far right to see it, it was the first one I managed to capture on vid :)

The highlight of my week definitely has to be my 24 week midwife appointment.  After she measured my bump, she got a doppler out and listened to the baby's heartbeat - first time we've heard it.  Such a magical moment, to hear the little heart beating away (around 130 bpm) and very strong, I couldn't stop grinning.

SYMPTOMS
Same as previous weeks, although the heartburn is subsiding.  I only had one day last week where I had heartburn all day, other than that it's easing off.  Still get an achy back, tiredness and nausea though.

I've had a couple of dizzy moments this week, usually after taking a deep breath, then feeling really dizzy like the room is spinning.  The first time it happened I was at work and sitting down, I grabbed onto the arms of the chair as I felt like I was going to fall over, and after about 30 secs it passed.  I went and grabbed a full fat sprite for the sugar (I'd been craving sweets that afternoon) and felt fine after.  Then on Saturday we were getting ready to head to a BBQ, I hadn't eaten in about 4 hours (I had breakfast at 11am, this was about 3:30pm - skipped lunch as wasn't hungry) and I took a deep breath, got all dizzy and had to sit down for a couple of mins, and then I was fine again.  I think it might be when I'm hungry or in need of sugar.  I had some Starburst just after this and felt fine :)

WEIGHT & DIET
My weight is down another 2lbs, so I'm back to my pre-pregnancy weight again!  I do wonder how much weight I've actually lost, since I haven't put any on with this pregnancy.  I'm thinking it could be around 1 stone, I've even had people (who haven't seen me in a while) saying my face looks thinner, I can definitely see that too.  Well, I'm eating healthily so it's just a happy bonus.  Since the hubby has taken over cooking I'm eating much better.  Only once in the last week did I have a jacket potato for dinner.  We've had a couple of evenings of pasta and a couple of veg with mashed potato and a little quorn.  I still can't eat like I used to, which is a good thing, I definitely get fuller a lot quicker too. Hopefully my stomach has shrunk and when the baby is born my appetite will remain as it is now :)

BUMP
Definitely getting more noticeable.  It'll always be more difficult to tell as I'm so overweight, but I'm getting people coming up to me and saying 'You're showing!' which is nice :)  I've also had to retire my maternity jeans, they don't fit me anymore and the only shops that sell proper plus-size maternity wear (Simple Be and Bon Prix) are sold out of nearly all sizes #awesome.  What this means?  I'm living in maxi dresses.  That's fine for the hot days, not so great on days it's raining.  I only have 3 maxi dresses too, so these next few months will be challenging!

NEXT APPOINTMENT
The week after next, when I'm 26 weeks.  I have to have a repeat GTT (Glucose tolerance test), wasn't told the results of the first one, but hopefully this one will show that I'm ok.  Then, at 28 weeks I have a consultant appointment and a scan, very excited about that as we get to see Squidge again :D

BABY STUFF
Haven't bought anything new this week, although we will be picking out the moses basket soon, I think I know which one I want (one of Lollipop lane's new super soft ones) but I want to have a good look around just to make sure :)

24 week pregnancy update

24 week pregnancy update
Top to Bottom, left to right: Me having a day off on Friday and not wanting to get up, a Totoro baby grow we've ordered on Etsy, a Leia baby grow we've ordered on Etsy, a cute and colourful baby blanket we bought from TK Maxx, a day out in town on Saturday (very rare!) and a cute little converse outfit we picked up in TK Maxx, in the boys section, but in my opinion, either could happily wear :)

This is a special week.  In pregnancy circles we call today 'V Day' - V standing for 'viable'.  It means that as of today, my baby is no longer considered a foetus and if she is born prematurely (from today onwards) they Drs will do all they can to save her, and (god forbid!) if she doesn't survive, we'll be given a death certificate and have a funeral and it wouldn't be classed as a miscarriage.  I know that's a horrible thing to think about, but psychologically it's another milestone to have surpassed.

MY WEEK
Hello! What a week! Firstly, I'm so sorry there's been no other blog posts in the past week, I've been really tired.  Basically, the hubby spent the week snoring his head off each night, I'd keep waking him up to turn over, but I think he was a bit bunged up and kept rolling onto his back.  There's nothing he could do about it, but it was loud enough to wake me up and keep me awake, so it's fair to say I felt like a zombie last week :P  I did book off Friday (and today) and spend Friday relaxing and sleeping, feeling much better for it now.

SYMPTOMS
Exactly the same as previous weeks - back ache, tiredness, heartburn (although, this has eased) and nausea.  They don't seem as bad anymore, I think I'm getting used to them :P  I have had quite swollen feet while it's been warm and with that I've had quite a pain in my left heel, I'll speak to the midwife about that on Thurs :)  My emotions seem to be a bit more stable than they were a couple weeks ago too, I'm not fond of being angry! lol

WEIGHT & DIET
Weight is back down again by 2lbs taking my total pregnancy weight gain to 2lbs - I don't think it'll stay this way for long, as I get towards the 3rd trimester I'm going to get pretty big, so I think more weight gain is inevitable, but that's fine.  My diet has been really good over the last week, I've been drinking less milk (which means less crusha) and eating more veg.  The hubby has taken over cooking dinners now as the preparation of them pretty much puts me off my food completely, so this means I've been eating fresh veg several times a week and getting more variety.  You know what, I haven't even had a jacket potato for dinner in like... 2 weeks? Crazy!

BUMP
Definitely getting bigger and as I'm writing this she's doing some of the strongest kicks she's done yet :) I've even been seeing my belly move over the past few days with strong kicks.  I can no longer fit into my maternity jeans (boo) and the only places (bon prix and simply be) that sell maternity jeans in my size don't have any in stock that would fit, which has left me with 1 maxi dress I can wear... eek! Tonight when the hubby comes home from work, we're heading to Sainsburys and Asda to see if I have better luck.  The one I'm wearing at the moment is from Sainsburys, oh and before you suggest leggings, I'll say that no person should be subjected to seeing my legs!

NEXT APPOINTMENT
This Thursday, it's my 24 week appointment with my Midwife, not really sure what it'll entail but I'll be there with bells on :)

BABY STUFF
We've bought only a couple more bits this week (all in the pic above).  We want to make sure we get some geeky stuff for the baby, so I've been buying a couple of bits on Etsy for that, and of course our little trip to TK Maxx where we bought the cute little Converse outfit (just need Converse shoes to go with it!) and the gorgeous little colourful blanket.

23 week pregnancy update

23 week pregnancy update

Weather-wise it's been a lovely week this week, we went back home to Pembrokeshire to see my step-dad and as you can see in the pics, it was glorious!  I spent much of the weekend taking pictures of birds and bees in the garden, as well as more practical stuff like sorting through some of my mums old stuff, evening finding a bag of my old clothes from when I was about 14!

MY WEEK
I've had a pretty good week.  Seeing as preparing food pretty much puts me off eating it, Chris has taken over the reins in the kitchen and has been cooking me up lots of lovely vegetables, and I've been good and eating them all :)  I'm really looking forward to getting to 24 weeks, we call it V day, v standing for viable.  It's the date when the government/hospitals recognises that your baby isn't just a foetus, and that if I were to go into labour early, they'll do everything they can to save the baby and wouldn't be classed as a miscarriage.

SYMPTOMS
Slightly better than last week I think, a smidge less heartburn (when going to bed at least).  Nausea and tiredness about the same.  Although I'm napping a little less frequently, when I do nap it tends to be for longer now (1 hr instead of half hour).  I've only really had back ache after sleeping in the super duper firm bed at my step dads.

WEIGHT & DIET
Haven't weighed myself this week, I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same as last week though.  Diet has improved, I've been having more vegetables as hubby has been cooking them for me :)  Still drinking plenty of milk with crusha in it, but instead of having frequent small glasses, I'm having infrequent pints :)

BUMP
Protruding a little more all the time.  My maternity jeans are now getting pretty tight, and the place I bought them from doesn't go any bigger, so I think I'll be switching to maxi dresses pretty soon!  I just need somewhere like SimplyBe to start selling nice ones - their current selection is pretty horrid.  The movement I've felt has eased off a bit the last couple of days, I think Squidge is chilled out, at least, I hope that's what it is :)  Today (Sunday) and yesterday I felt next-to-no-movement.  Hopefully I'll feel more this week :)

NEXT APPOINTMENT
I have a midwife appointment in 2 weeks, whoop!

BABY STUFF
Haven't bought any more in the last week, before I crack on buying play mats and other bits and bobs, we really need to start making headway in the house, and so far, we've done nothing!  I've told the hubby that next weekend we need to spend lots of time starting to get stuff done, otherwise I'll be 40 weeks and have nowhere for the baby to sleep, lets hope he gets an injection of motivation...

Week 22 pregnancy update

week 22 of pregnancy]
1. Trying out some new eyeshadows.  2. My phone case falling apart :(.  3. The baby changing unit we've bought from Mothercare (in love!).  4. Addicted to milk with strawberry crusha.  5. A positive message on a diet coke bottle.  7.  My growing bump (it's not all baby, but it's poking out more than it did!).  8.  Baking white choc & raspberry muffins for work (making them made me feel sick).  9.  Trying out a new caffeine free hot drink (Fruitbroo).  10.  Baking brownies for the first time for work.  (Yep, I only realised after typing this out I missed a 6 in the image, sorry!)

I'm now 2 weeks closer to V-Day - thats viable day, the date when your baby is officially considered viable if you give birth prematurely, and if your baby doesn't make it, you'll be given a death certificate and you'll have a funeral, it's a sad thing to think about but I'm not one to shy away from reality.

MY WEEK
So it's been a fun week as you can see from the pics, but I have been MIA on here, I've been super tired this week, not sleeping very well, I've been waking up really early with really achy sides, and then napping for up to 1 hr when I get home from work, so both this blog and my beauty blog suffered this week thanks to the pregnancy :)

EDIT: So last night (Sunday night) I felt the baby kick for the first time :)  I think may have felt it before but didn't feel sure, well, last night OMG loads of kicks! Some really really strong and some lighter, but there must have been around 30 kicks yesterday, maybe more :)  Made me feel very happy

SYMPTOMS
Pretty much the same, back-ache, tiredness, nausea (dry-wretching), heartburn - the same 4 I've had all the way through the pregnancy.  Nothings been worse, nothing better, all pretty much the same :)

WEIGHT & DIET
I'm up 4lbs in total now on my pre-pregnancy weight, I'm not surprised, I ate a lot of ice cream last week after craving raspberry ripple :)  It's been 2 weeks since I weighed myself too - and I normally weigh in leggins, today it was in jeans.  I still don't mind, as I should have gained quite a bit more by now :)  As for diet, it's been much of the same this week. Not really fancying anything and having a pretty weak diet.  I have been drinking lots of milk though which is great and I'm getting back into marmite (which we've just run out of!).

BUMP
That's the closest you're going to get for a bump photo for a while :)  I know I took the pic cleverly so it looks really round, but it's 2 bumps - I've had that as my shape for years, it's just all poking out a LOT more now I'm pregnant :)  Still haven't felt much in the way of movement, maybe a couple of pops but that's it, I have the anterior placenta to thank for that :)

NEXT SCAN/APPOINTMENT
Tuesday!!!! I'm excited as we get to see Squidge again :D  Hopefully the sonographer will be able to say boy or girl with a bit more certainty, if they do, I'll do a quick update on here on Tuesday too :)

BABY STUFF
Bought the biggest things this week, the pram travel-system (Graco Evo in Lime - on offer in Mothercare until Tuesday with £200 off!) and the baby changing table, it was the exact one I wanted, white with a wooden top and it's enclosed which is great for storage.  That also had £80 off, making it a much more stomachable £170 :)  The plan is that when Squidge has grown out of it, I'll use it all for storage, then when baby #2 comes along, it'll be a changing table again :)

21 week pregnancy update

keep calm and have a baby

Another week and another pregnancy update from me, I've had a headache all day today (Sunday) so I'll try to keep this short and snappy :)

MY WEEK
It's been a bit of a rollercoaster week, in a good way :)  Tuesday was the scan, if you want to read all about it my blog post is here, all was great and it was lovely to see Squidge again :)  The sonographer didn't manage to check all the things she needed to as the baby was being uncompliant!  So we're off back there on the 10th June for a re-scan and we get to see Squidge again - hopefully they'll be able to see a bit better and tell us once again if it's a girl or a boy - last time they said girl, but with very little certainty.

SYMPTOMS
The same as all the way through the pregnancy, still quite tired, had a nap today and yesterday, bit of backache, heartburn and general nausea (when brushing teeth, thinking about food, smelling something etc).

WEIGHT & DIET
I forgot to weigh myself today (always do it in the afternoon between lunch and dinner), so I can't update you on that this week, although I'd imagine it have gone up as I've been drinking loads of milk (with Crusha in it!) and eating raspberry ripple ice cream (NOM!), but that's all gone now so I won't be eating any more of that for a while :)  As for the milk with Crusha - it's a great way for me to drink more milk which is needed for the baby, it's like drinking squash as a way of drinking more water :)

BUMP
When lying down, I can definitely feel it and it's starting to protrude.  When sitting down, my tummy is definitely sticking out a whole lot more!  When standing, not a massive difference, but yeah, my overweight tummy is definitely poking out more than normal :)

NECT SCAN/APPOINTMENT
10th June - rescan of the anomaly scan :)

BABY STUFF
Well, had a fab email from Mothercare this week about an offer they have on their Graco Evo pram travel system (3 in 1) - it's got £200 off, so it's now £329 which is amazing!  Whilst we haven't bought it yet, I think we probably will, the offer ends on the 10th June, so I think we'll be popping back there before then to make our purchase!  When we were there, we did pick up some cute socks and a wrist rattle, some sock-ons (highly recommended to me) and a Glo-egg room thermometer for the Nursery - so not much this week, but little bits and bobs :)
