ThinkGeek baby wishlist

ThinkGeek wishlist of baby clothes

1.  Made with love and science babygrow $9.99.  2.  Superhero socks $4.99.  3.  Star Trek uniform babygrows $15.99 for one.  4. Batman night light $9.99.  5.  Minecraft creeper babygrow $9.99.  6.  I just boldly went (star trek) babygrow $14.99.  7.  Companion cube (Portal) babygrow $9.99.

This is becoming a trend, wishlists on a Wednesday, so I'm going to stick with this theme of 'Wishlist Wednesday' :D  This week it's all about mine and hubby's geekness.  We're geek and proud and what's more, we really want to get some geeky stuff for the baby.  I'm probably going to do more geek baby wishlists from different shops, but this weeks features ThinkGeek - a site I've bought many things from over the years, including an Office Space survival kit (of the film), T-Shirts for the hubby and an assortment of other bits and bobs :)

Of these, my absolute favourite is number 5, the Minecraft creeper babygrow, so so so cute!  I think I'll definitely be picking one of these up.  I adore the socks too, but I think I might prefer them on a toddler, the little caps might move around then as they're moving about :)

The Batman night light is gorgeous, of course it'll be an American plug on it, so you'll need a converter, but the Batman glow is awesome :)

Being a trekkie, I couldn't resist including the Star Trek uniform babygrows too, they're just too cute! Teamed up with some black leggings they'd look like they belong on the enterprise!!!

Now, because I'm lazy I'm not linking off to each piece, what I have done instead is create a wish list on their website.  To be clear, this is not for you to buy me stuff (that's not what I want), this is just so you can easily find the links in one place :)  Here's the wish list :)  Because it's an American site, if you're shipping to the UK there's quite a heavy postage charge, so make sure you make it worth while before you buy something - also in the past I've had to pay a customs charge (once, for £30).

What do you think of this geeky wishlist?  I love it!

16 week pregnancy update

My week in photos
1.  Coming back from the bank holiday weekend and birthday break to discover I had 17 Nicholas Cage pictures stuck to my desk.  2. An ASOS fortune cookie.  3. Trying 'Yes to Cucumbers' face wipes and it bringing me out in eczema, which I still have.  4.  My Aldi haul of baby stuff - we put the bouncer together to make sure it wasn't broken.  5.  My ASOS insider package, whoop.  6.  My to-do list for Saturday for my beauty blog.  7.  Sorting our paperwork out in the spare room on Friday night (rock and roll!) - we filled 3 carrier bags with shredder paper!

It's officially week 16, a big week for me.  Tomorrow (Tues) I'm having my bloods done to test for the genetic problems, keeping everything crossed that they come back ok.  My sister-in-law had this come back as high risk with her babies (for downs) but because she has a thyroid disorder (Graves disease) it had corrupted the result, so I'm a little concerned this might happen with me, since I have the underactive thyroid.  Well, no point me stressing over it, whatever will happen will happen.

On Thursday I also have my 16 week midwife appointment at the local Drs, not expecting much here, but in all honesty, I have no idea what to expect :P

MY WEEK
The last week has gone surprisingly well.  I've been busy trying to blog everyday over on my beauty blog - something I did for 18 months and stopped this xmas, but I've been slowing building myself back up to it again, it helps to keep me motivated that I have a lot of things to review so I really need to blog more frequently :)

SYMPTOMS
I had a terrible day of nausea on Tuesday where I constantly felt like I was about to throw up, but I was ok in the end :)  The tiredness seems to be subsiding, for the last 4-5 days I've been feeling more normal, I just hope that it stays that way now. I'm beginning to be able to eat more normally too, as much as I can't eat pre-pregnancy quantities (which is a good thing), I'm finding that I'm eating jacket potatoes for dinner less and less.

WEIGHT
Well, I weighed myself at a different time of day to last week, last week was about 4pm and this week it was about 8pm (so after dinner).  Surprisingly I'm up 5lbs!!!  The amount I'm eating hasn't changed much, so this must be the baby :)  I read that by this point I should have gained 5lbs on my starting weight, and so far I've only gained 3lbs, so that's not bad :)  It's strange talking so openly about a gain in weight, and it not being a bad thing :)

DIET
It's been much the same - eating plenty of fruit and salad (and jacket potatoes!).  Starting to eat more normal food again though.  I really fancied pizza on Sat night, so we went to Asda for a make-your-own pizza and when we got to the counter I asked the guy if their cheese that they use is vegetarian, he replied with this astonishing comment "Nothing here is because of cross-contamination" - WHAT? There should be NO cross-contamination! The vegetables were kept separate to the meat with a acrylic guard in the way... he handed me their nutritional info on the cheese they use and nope, not suitable for veggies.  So we bought one of their chilled pizzas which are - a stuffed crust with a dip, yummy!

BUMP
Still not showing, but I'm sure that when I'm lying down, my tummy just down from my belly button is getting firmer.  I'm sure that on Saturday I felt my first movement too - not a kick, but like the baby was stretching his/her legs and arms pushing my belly outwards.  Maybe it wasn't that, but that's what it felt like :)

NEXT SCAN
27th May - to find out if we're team blue or team pink :)

BABY STUFF
We bought LOTS of baby stuff this week!  As Aldi were having a baby event on their usual Thursday sale, we went and bought:

  • *  Hauck baby bouncer (lovely quality and only £14.99)
  • *  Set of plastic storage - this will be for nappies
  • *  Set of 3 muslin cloths (yellow)
  • *  A set of socks for newborns
  • *  Tommee tippee microwave steriliser
  • *  2 sets of 6 tommee tippee bottles (slow release)
  • *  Tommee tippee sippy cup (for age 0 up)
  • *  Tommee tippee food pots
  • *  2 baby blankets (one green and one yellow)

All in all a great haul I think you'll agree!  It came to a grand total of about £65 (we bought a couple of food items too, so the grand total was £69).

Thanks for reading :)

Moses basket wishlist

moses baskets

| 1. Prickles and Twoo moses basket from Lollipop Lane - £64.99 (with stand) |
| 2. John Lewis make a wish moses basket - £75 (plus stand) |
| 3. Winnie the Pooh moses basket from Mothercare - £69.99 (plus stand) |

Today I set myself the challenge of narrowing down the moses basket choices to my top three, and from there, hopefully make a decision.

What I didn't expect was to discover a brand I've pretty much fallen in love with, and with pretty reasonable prices too, I'm looking at you Lollipop Lane!  Before I start raving about them (expect Lollipop Lane wishlists!) lets talk about my top 3 choices for moses baskets.

1.  Prickles and Twoo from Lollipop Lane.
I adore polka dots and love owls (and purple!) so this is a lovely combination of all that, what's more, the stand is included in the price, as well as a mattress.  I love that it's made from a light coloured material and that it's unisex - regardless of whether we have a boy or girl, I want to keep as much of the decoration etc gender neutral as possible.  I also love that the underneath of the owl is a mirror, so the baby can look at their self when they're laying down :)  (my top choice)

2.  Make a wish moses basket from John Lewis.
I love how this is all white (with a little grey).  I'm not a fan of really frilly baskets which is one of the reasons this one appeals to me.  It has cute stars all over it, pin-stripes on the top and a little elephant. Perfect for my taste and nice and neutral.  The only problem with this one is that the stand you have to buy separately for £30.  (my second favourite choice)

3.  Winnie the Pooh basket from Mothercare.
This lovely basket has a cute dangling star and moon and is well wrapped.  It's in white and beige so very neutral.  Despite it ticking lots of the boxes, this is bottom of my wishlist, just because I find myself lusting after the other two more.  I'd also need to buy the stand separately too.  (my third choice)

So I think I've talked myself into which one I want, it's just a case of when to buy it.  After I found the wonderful Lollipop Lane, I followed them on twitter and saw they were having a 15% off sale, so of course I jumped over and had a look!  Some really well priced muslin clothes (oh so cute!), very cute baby clothes that aren't much more expensive than Asda.... anyway, before I get carried away listing all the things I liked from there, I'll save that for another post.  Until then, farewell!

Week 15 pregnancy update

15 weeks pregnant, my week
L-R top-bottom - Ramen, Brecon Beacons, Hay-on-Wye bookshop, the love of my life (hubby), a random shop in Hay-on-Wye which made me laugh, Ticket to Ride, vanilla chai latte

It's official, I'm now 15 weeks pregnant!  Each week seems to go so quickly and thankfully, without much drama.

MY WEEK
It's been a good week!  I've grown a year older as of Thursday last week.  We drove to Hay-on-Wye and back, and had a good walk around the town.  When we got back, we played 'Ticket to Ride' which was one of my birthday presents from the hubby (we're super into board games!) and I made us home-made vanilla chai lattes, after that, we headed to a Japanese restaurant in Cardiff that we hadn't been to before called Tankaichi - I had green tea, vegetable raman, we shared some cucumber maki and Chris had a teryaki chicken bento box - all very delicious and only cost us £23, bargain!

SYMPTOMS
The tiredness still hasn't subsided and in fact, I'm napping more.  On day's I'm not working (so Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun just been) I'm napping around 3pm because I literally can't keep my eyes open, I sleep for about half an hour on the sofa, then I'm bright eyed and bushy tailed for the rest of the day.  The nausea is still the same, still have achy boobs and in fact, I was sitting in a meeting last week and the underwire in my bra snapped!!!  Luckily it was very late in the day just before I finished work, I was able to rush out to Evans and pick up a new bra, but by that time the underwire was starting to stab me :(  Not what you expect from a bra that's only 6 months old!

WEIGHT
Surprisingly, up until last week, my weight had remained exactly the same, this is thanks to a much smaller appetite and the fact most food makes me feel sick.  Well, I weighed myself yesterday and I was 3lb's lighter!  So I'm properly losing weight - given that I'm very overweight this isn't a bad thing.

DIET
I'm eating fairly healthily, porridge for breakfast, something random for lunch like a jacket potato or some sushi and a pretzel with fruit and dinner is typically 2 baked potatoes with a little butter.  Trying to eat plenty of fruit and drink lots of water too.

BUMP
Still not showing (due to being very plus-size), but when I'm lying down I can feel that my lower tummy is much firmer than it was, under the squidgyness that is :)  Hopefully it'll get firmer and firmer as time goes on, and eventually I'll get a proper pregnant belly :)

NEXT SCAN
27th May - this is when we find out if we're having a boy or a girl.  I'm still convinced we're having a boy, but we'll only know on the 27th :)  We'd be perfectly happy with either, ideally we want to have one of each, so as long as they're healthy, that's all that matters.  Next week when I'm 16 weeks, I'll be having my community midwife appointment, and my fasting bloods done, something I'm trying not to think about.

BABY STUFF
We've held back on buying anymore baby stuff for a while.  I want to get the 20 week scan out of the way, once we've had that, and the bloods back and we know squidge is healthy and whether it's a boy or girl, then we can go nuts and buy all the stuff we like, but until then, I'd rather hold off.

Week 14 pregnancy update

st fagans
I can't believe I'm on week 14, officially 3.5 months in!  It's been a pretty good week.  As much as I still feel tired, and I'm still retching lots, I do think that the drain of trimester 1 is starting to ease.

I'm still finding rich foods hard to eat.  We went for a meal with friends last night and I opted for a cheese & pickle sandwich on sourdough bread with a side of chips.  I didn't expect it to be toasted, which make it a whole lot richer, so I only managed half of it, the chips were super yummy though!

Yesterday was great, it was beautifully sunny in Cardiff and we took the opportunity to head out and do something nice, so we went to St Fagans Natural History Museum.  The hubby wanted to take some pics of some iron age buildings for a Uni project he was working on, sadly, they've taken them down, but we still enjoyed a lovely couple of hours together looking around the buildings.  Normally I'd be able to walk around with no problems, but since being pregnant I get tired really quickly and get a very achy back, so I had to stop regularly and have a rest.  After 2 hours there I was knackered and we came home, after getting some lunch there.  Cutely, when we got back, Matilda was keeping watch on the baby clothes we've bought (bottom right pic).

Symptoms-wise I've been ok this week, much the same as last week - tired, heartburn, nausea and still funny with rich food and most foods I like!  I am starting to cook again though, albeit slowly and most of the time if I cook it means I won't eat any of it as the process of cooking food makes me feel really sick.  I know the hubby is really appreciating my efforts though!

All in all a good week, I'm really grateful that I haven't actually been sick, and I'm not quite as tired as I was last week, although, after getting back from St Fagans I did have a little nap, in fact, Chris did too :)

Foods, oh not so glorious foods

yummy food

From what I've experienced so far, food is no longer my friend.  Now, that's a good thing in my ways, being overweight already brings many challenges, and with food not being my friend, that can only be a good thing.  But, seeing as I'm vegetarian, it throws me a bit of a curve ball.

Foods I used to love like quorn escalopes (they make me want to hurl just thinking about them now!), cheese, tea, coffee, bread... all make me feel horrid.  Whereas I used to love rich food, like dauphinoise potatoes (ermergherd!) now make me feel sick.  Garlic... not something I like anymore either...

My diet is pretty limited to very simple and plain food now.  A typical working day for me looks like:

Breakfast - Oatso simple porridge
11am snack - grapes
Lunch - Plain jacket potato with butter, and a side salad
Afternoon snack - grapes
Dinner - Plain jacket potatoes
Drinks throughout the day - apple & mango squash,  mineral water and sometimes a cup of tea

So my diet isn't bad per se, but I'm not getting all the nutrients I need either, and in typical Irish fashion, my diet is full of potato!  The idea of eating most veg makes me feel sick, so I'm a little stumped.

What I wonder, is this just an early pregnancy thing, or has pregnancy changed my tastes for good?

Inspiration on Pinterest

Pinterest is something I adopted at the very start when you had to 'request' to have an account on there, since then and hundreds of pins later I'm still going strong!  With the baby on the way it's natural I've set up a couple of boards for inspiration for the nursery, and a board for cute baby clothing.  I thought I'd share the boards with you, there's some seriously beautiful things on there, especically the Etsy owl mobile, so so cute!

I hope you liked my pins, feel free to re-pin them and/or follow me on Pinterest here, or both if you're feeling generous :)

Have a lovely couple of days, until next time!

Week 13 pregnancy update

Another week has gone by and as of today, I'm now officially out of trimester 1, and in trimester 2!

Symptoms
I'm looking forward to (hopefully) feeling more normal again, not being so tired, hopefully not wretching all the time when I'm taking my inhaler or brushing my teeth etc too - that hasn't been fun.

Shopping
As much as we're not actively shopping for baby stuff just yet, we are picking up little bits and bobs when we see them - we picked up some cute baby clothes in Asda that were super adorable (I'll be doing a haul video soon once we have a couple more bits).  I want to be super organised and make sure we're 100% ready for when Squidge arrives, and well before hand!

Planning
My hubby, as well as working full time, is also doing a part-time Open University degree (Engineering), he'll have most of the summer off, but he starts back again in September, the month before the baby is due, so it'll be important to have everything ready by then.  The first thing we're doing is our bedroom - we need to have a MASSIVE sort out, buy a wardrobe, chest of drawers and 2 new bedside tables, we've already picked out what we want, we just need to sort everything out first, then we can turn the room around and actually start putting together the new furniture, I'm really looking forward to this - I've been waiting to sort our room since we moved in 10 years ago!

I have been keeping a keen eye on Gumtree for bargains, and I'm seeing some great deals on moses baskets & stands, there's been a couple of local ones that look in great condition and they've only been about £15, I'm just waiting to hear back from them to see if they're still available - I think it'll be good to buy these things when we see them at great prices :)

Bump pics
For those of you hoping for bump pics, I'm afraid there won't be any :(  Because I'm overweight, I won't be 'showing' for a long time yet, and trust me, you don't want to see my bump pics :)

How I'm feeling
I'm excited to be moving into the next phase of pregnancy, and counting down the days until my 20 week scan on the 27th May when we get to find out if Squidge will be a boy or a girl - I'm still convinced it'll be a boy, but secretly hoping for a girl - but ultimately, as long as they're healthy that's the most important, because I'm high risk it's something that's always on my mind.

Have a great week :)

Mothercare wishlist #1

| 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 |

Virtual online shopping is one of my favourite past-times, whether it's looking at houses I'd love to live in, or filling a virtual shopping basket with goodies and not buying them.  Well, now I have a great excuse to do some actual shopping - but before actually spending our money, I'm having a really good look around at the kind of things I want to buy for little Squidge.

Even though we'll be finding out if they're a boy or a girl, I still want to keep the room pretty neutral, it certainly won't be blue or pink, more likely yellows, beiges with splashes of colour.  Lots of people have said to me not to worry what the room look like or what we have, as the baby won't care, but I will care, and I'll be spending a lot of time in there breastfeeding, changing the baby etc, so I want it to be a nice place to spend time in.

It's a really small room, a box room really, so we need to be really smart with our use of the space, I'm not looking at furniture just yet, it's just the small things, the bigger stuff can wait until later :)

I'm really bad at dealing with poo - and this is something I'm going to HAVE to get used to and live with.  But I'm also all for making my life easier, which is why I've included a nappy disposal bin on my wishlist - you plop the nappy in, and the bin wraps it up in a bag creating a sausage-like train of wrapped nappies - then you just empty these away, and it keeps the horrid smells out.

I love the idea of a musical mobile for over the cot, and this one is super cute, I love the little happy animals that look like they're flying, this will be a definite purchase for me :D

The baby grows and clothing were just a few pieces I found that were under the 'unisex' banner and that I thought were gorgeous - I mean, slippers for a baby, how cute!  Love the lamp baby grows too, I'm obsessed with lambs (this is my favourite time of year because of that!), and what baby would be complete without a hungry caterpillar baby grow :)

Finally I picked a couple of lights that I thought were gorgeous.  I'm NOT a fan of 'big lights' - i.e. ceiling lights, they're always too bright, or not quite bright enough, I much prefer soft lighting from lamps, so Squidge's room will be equipped with a nice lamp, and a soft night light (like the elephant ceramic light).

I hope you've liked this wishlist, I'll be publishing plenty more over the coming weeks/months on all aspects of setting up the baby's room, like nursery inspiration posts, baby clothing, baby furniture, decor/flooring etc :)

Thanks for reading, catch you tomorrow :)

12 week pregnancy update

Baby squidge

I'm officially over 12 weeks pregnant now.  One thing I've found that's really confused me is the dating - if you go by the first day of my last period, I should be 13 and a half weeks now, but when I had my scan a week ago, they dated me at 11 weeks then, when the midwife had me down as 12 weeks.  So I never know whether to go by the date the scan people told me, or by the first day of my last period... who knows!  It's all new to me :)

Symptoms
So far my main symptoms have been nausea - but not just generally feeling sick, but feeling nauseous at the thought of certain foods, or when doing things like brushing my teeth, taking my inhaler, coughing etc - then I wretch and it's really horrid!

I've had some heartburn, but earlier in the pregnancy, not much in the last 3 weeks.  I've also had a lower back ache on and off.  Not many food cravings, it's been more like a struggle trying to find food and drink that doesn't make me feel sick, all the normal things I eat (I'm vegetarian and usually eat lots of Quorn) I seem to feel repulsed by.

We've already started picking up little bits and bobs for the baby, little booties and baby grows when we see a good deal on them, but I'm trying to hold off until we find out the sex of the baby, then we can buy more appropriately :)  I'll do a proper 'haul' once we have a bit more, either on here or on my YouTube channel (I might start a new channel just for mummy stuff) :)

Anyway, that's it for now, thanks for reading :)
